REVALIDATING OR RENEWING YOUR SEP RATING

PPLs, CPLs or ATPLs are now issued for 5 years under  JAR rules. The details below are for quick reference only; please refer to the relevant CAA information for the latest requirements.

The licence is only valid if supported by a valid Class Rating or Type Rating, and a current Medical Certificate. The Class or Type Rating is a form in the licence, revalidated or renewed by a Class or Type Rating Examiner's signature.

REVALIDATION is either by experience or proficiency check.

RENEWAL
If you have failed to revalidate by either of the above methods, and you are within 5 years of the expiry date, an examiner must carry out a Skills Test (similar to a Proficiency Check, plus additional training as required).  The examiner will then revalidate you for 2 years from the date of test,Again, a form is sent to the CAA, but no CAA fee is required.

RENEWAL AFTER 5 YEARS FROM EXPIRY DATE
As for a renewal within 5 years, except that a new rating form is issued and signed by the CAA, and a CAA fee  is payable.
