Wellesbourne Aviation was founded in 1983, our humble beginnings being a small clubhouse near the tower. The fleet then consisted of a single Cessna 150. After a while, a couple of Piper Tomahawks and a Grumman AA5 were added.
A couple of further moves to our current premises, plus expansion and modernisation of the fleet leads us to the present day. Currently, we operate nine aircraft consisting of Robin HR200s, a Robin 2160i aerobatic aircraft, Piper PA28 Warriors and a PA28R-200 Arrow, thus allowing a natural progression from basic trainer to fast touring aircraft.
We offer flying training at all levels, the PPL, IMC and night ratings, RT licence, safety pilots course and aerobatic rating all on either a full or part-time basis. All training is conducted from our own premises, we have briefing and study rooms plus a large flight planning room. In addition, we are the only school on Wellesbourne Aerodrome offering structured classes for the all important ground school training.
Our instructors are all highly experienced and passionate about aviation. We also have two examiners on the staff, thereby ensuring the smooth development from ab-initio student to qualified pilot.
And
it doesn’t stop there. Once qualified, the freedom of the sky is yours. All of
our aircraft are available for self-hire and you will be able to fly with
passengers both at home and abroad. There are many airfields in the United
Kingdom worth visiting for day trips as well as extending further afield to the
Continent.
With a membership in excess of 400 people the club is quite active with regular fly-outs, both to home and foreign destinations, social occasions, winter seminars and competitions.
Wellesbourne aerodrome is a delightful airfield, unencumbered by commercial traffic or controlled airspace, which means you get the best value out of your training time. It is also well placed in the country for touring, most airfields are within a few hours reach from here.
